Mick Bacich is a contemporary artist who enjoys several mediums. Whether he is working as an explosion artist, a landscape colorist or glass designer, the common thread in all his work is his unique ability to simplify the visual field. It is this struggle of streamlining complex compositions that he finds exciting.
Bacich has always been involved in creative enterprises. In the ‘60s and ‘70s he was part of the popular folk group, The Wayside. During the same period he was also known for his award winning metal sculpture. His bold sculptures were featured in wall hangings and fountains and were found in collections in the United States and abroad. From 1974 to 1996 Bacich applied his creativity to business ventures. He developed and ran tennis clubs and built homes in Northern California.
In 1996 he returned to the visual arts. He studied with Susan Sarback, a renowned colorist and Gregory Kondos, one of Northern California’s most respected artists. In 1997, he became a founding member of Chroma Gallery in Fair Oaks, California.
Now living in Southern California, Bacich is constantly inspired by the beauty and landscape around his Newport Beach home. Most recently he spends his time exploring the opportunities that gunpowder and explosions provide as he further develops the clean strong style that is seen in all of his work.
